Sant Miquel del Fai
Located in the valley of Riells, just 40 kilometres away from Barcelona, the Monastery of Sant Miquel del Fai is a historical building of great interest. With a clear Catalan gothic style, the monastery dates from the XV century and is located in a privileged environment, surrounded by springs of water, caves, and historical constructions where it is possible to spend a day outdoors.
Sant Miquel del Fai changes its aspect in each season. The water changes the landscape and gives as a result, spectacular images. The rocky walls and the mountain are an imposing site; the straight cliff walls formed by sedimentary rocks have different textures and the grotto bursts into this verticality, opening an enormous cavity in the rocky wall. The visitor can admire the "travertins", rocky formations that stick out of the vertical walls. And if you enter into the Caves of Sant Miquel and of las Tosques, you will be impressed by the incredible formation of fern and Moss.
The fauna and flora of thel Fai are very rich because of their great variety. The big amount of ponds and likes are the ideal habitat for a huge load of aquatic animals, fish and amphibious. Sant Miquel Del Fai is known for its great tradition of medicinal plants, and also for its flavourful liquor.
